LAETICIA MUKURASI BIOGRAPHY
Laeticia Mukurasi, a Tanzanian national, is a long-term feminist, activist, and advocate of women’s rights with almost three-decade experience in the areas of gender and development. She has published, authored and co-authored a number of books and articles. Currently self-employed as a Freelance International Consultant in Gender and Development, she provides capacity development for gender mainstreaming to United Nations Agencies, Government, and Non-Governmental Organizations. From 1998 to 2010, Laeticia worked as a Gender Specialist at the African Development Bank (AfDB). Her work involved developing and promoting policies and practices geared to create an enabling environment for gender equality and women empowerment; gender mainstreaming in the Bank’s lending programme; capacity building for Bank staff; contribution to internal reforms through resource mobilization; external representation and interagency collaboration. Before that she worked for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United Nations Fund for Women (UNIFEM) at the Dar es Salaam Country Office in Tanzania as an Assistant Resident Representative responsible for Gender Programming. Her work was to: ensure the effectiveness of the Gender Unit as a catalyst in the Country Office activities in policy-making, programming; promote heightened gender awareness among Country Office staff members and government counter-parts; provide gender sensitivity training and networking; engage in effective constituency building through the establishment of positive working partnership between the Gender and other Units;  and, provide leadership in donor coordination among the UN agencies and bilateral donors.

Previously, she worked for a government-owned company, Fibreboards (Africa) Limited as a Manager for Human Resource and Administration. She was a member of the Executive Committee of the Association of Tanzania Employers, an Assessor of the Industrial Court and a member of the General Council of the Tanzania Trade Union, JUWATA.
